Snowpine Lodge embodies mountain luxury in Alta, Utah
Snowpine Lodge, located in Alta, Utah, is the epitome of luxury accommodation in a mountain setting. I visited the resort more than five years ago, before it had undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation. I loved how quaint and cozy the two-story hotel was. The rooms were small, but easy acess to Alta Ski Area was priceless.
Now, the six-story hotel has 52 rooms and offers upscale guest rooms, fine dining, full-service spa, kids game room, all the amenities guests need for a relaxing vacation. For guests visiting in the winter months, you can’t beat the ski-in/ski-out access to Alta Ski Resort, as well as on-property ski rentals and ski lockers.
One of the unique features is a lounge area on each level where guests can cozy up on the couches by the fireplace or take a seat on the balcony to admire the mountain views. Whether you’re visiting for a family vacation, couple’s retreat or business trip, Snowpine Lodge is an outdoor recreation lover’s dream.

The guest rooms and suites at Snowpine Lodge are tastefully decorated with furniture and decor that are harmonious with the wilderness setting. Rooms boast views of the Wasatch Mountains, are comfortable, and include high-end amenities. Accommodations can fit couples, families, or groups of individual travelers. I stayed in the Slope Side King with Balcony room and loved waking up to the snow-covered mountains every morning. My room was right off the public lounge area and next to the Stillwater Spa. The public seating included comfy couches, a fireplace, a picturesque balcony with fire pit, and seating near a water feature. The furniture made me feel like I was in someone’s living room, rather than a hotel
The largest room, The Snowpine Suite, is 896 square feet and sleeps four. It features a separate, spacious living area with a pull-out queen bed, a second bathroom, and a limited kitchenette offering a refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. There are two options for dining, Swen’s Restaurant and Gulch Pub. Like some accommodation in Alta, meals are not included, unless you book a special package when making reservations.
Swen’s provides a daily breakfast buffets with favorite items such as pancakes, bacon, eggs, pastries and more. The restaurant is also open for dinner during which they serve locally-sourced menu items including the Roasted Beet Salad with Pine Nut Butter, Belgian Endive, Tarragon Crème Fraiche, Citrus; the Coffee Roasted Carrots with Dates, Cumin, Granola; and the Mountain Trout with Hatch Chilies, Broccoli, Huckleberry Beurre Blanc. The decor is modern rustic with scenic views of the Wasatch mountains. Soft leather seating, natural wood tables, zinc chandeliers and chairs, and and open kitchen make the atmosphere warm and inviting. The attentive service and extensive drink menu round out the experience. Currently, Swen’s is the only restaurant open for dinner in Alta. Reservations are highly recommended
The Gulch Pub offers a casual place to meet friends for Apres Ski, with live music, comfortable seating, spectacular view of the slopes, and a welcoming bar. Dine on the Specialty Pizzas, Snowpine Burger, Baja Style Fish Tacos, Classic Caesar Salad, or one of the specialties such as General Tso’s Cauliflower with Tempura battered, toasted sesame, scallions, chili threads, crispy shallots, grated cured egg yolks.
You won’t want to miss out on a treatment at the Stillwell Spa. Relax after a hard day of skiing with a soak in the private Grotto, refresh with an oxygen treatment, pamper yourself with a beauty treatment at the salon, or stretch out by attending a yoga class. For the ultimate indulgence, spring for a body treatment, such as the Couples Retreat side-by-side massage that uses custom techniques and aromatherapy to meet both of your specific needs. During this treatment, the therapist will focus on stretching, massage, relaxation and rejuvenation. For skin renewal, try the Luxe and Beauty Signature Facial to restore the architecture of the face by utilizing potent nutrients in plant actives. Need to recover from an epic day on the slopes? Sign up for the High Altitude Recovery treatment or the Boots Off Massage. There is also a fitness facility with cardio and weights equipment.
Winter Activities at Snowpine Lodge
Winter is the high season at Alta, with downhill skiing, heli skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and more. The lodge is located on the slopes of Alta Ski Resort. The resort is skiing only, no snowboarding allowed. Alta has six lifts and 118 runs. It is known for deep powder skiing and mountain traverses to gain access to skiing challenging chutes.
One of the best features of Snowpine Lodge is the on-property ski rentals and retail store through Powder House Ski Rentals. The staff makes it fast and convenient to hit the slopes with all the gear you’ll need, advice on terrain, recommendations on equipment, ski tuning, and more. They also sell souvenirs to take home from your trip. Want to use your own skis? Take advantage of Shipskis to have your skis delivered directly to the hotel.
The lodge also includes ski lockers (with boot and glove heaters!) that make it easy to get on and off the mountain, as well as a private ski lift that goes directly to Snowpine. The lockers have the same number as your room number, so it’s easy to remember and your room key opens the locker. Very convenient. And don’t miss out on the fresh cookies available as you return at the end of the day.
Teenagers (and adults!) will be thrilled with The Nest — a fully stocked game room with football, ping pong, pool table, arcade games, movies, and more. The games are free (no quarters needed!). Little ones can check out the Little Nest with a ball pit, hanging chairs, tee pee, game tables and more. There is also a year-round heated pool.
Snowpine Lodge is about an hour away from Salt Lake City Airport. It is easy to get to and from by booking a shuttle service. Once at the hotel, you won’t necessarily need transportation. The staff is happy to provide free rides to the nearby ticket office, the base of Alta Ski Resort or Snowbird Ski Area. Booking ahead is recommended.
